Gleanings from 1 Samuel 1, 3 & 7
- The Lord is not looking for just one Samuel anymore. Now He is preparing the ‘rods of His strength’ to go forth out of Zion. (Ps 110)
- He is waiting for that womb (heart) to be given totally over and avowed to Him and His kingdom’s cause.
- He is waiting for one who will not be pacified by temporal things.
- He is looking for one who has had enough of the status quo.
- He is looking for the one who will rise up/stand up and do something differently.
- He is looking for one who has come to end of themselves and is changing gear to another level of consecration.
- He is looking one who is so desperate that they don’t mind being misunderstood by others.
- He is looking for one who will sow all they have received from Him as a seed for revival in their days
Heart Cry Prayers
9 Once when they had finished eating and drinking in
Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the
priest was sitting on his chair by the doorpost of the Lord’s house. 10 In
her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. 11 And she made a vow, saying, “Lord
Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and
not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord
for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.” 1 Sam 1:9-11
- Lord, whatever it was that You did in Hannah’s heart, please do it in mine too. Bring me to the point of standing up and taking whatever deliberate action I need to take now.
- Lord, bring me to the place where I am ready to make a vow to You and help me to keep it.
- Lord, use the anguish of my soul to bring my prayer life in line with Your will.
12 As she kept on praying to the Lord, Eli observed
her mouth. 13 Hannah was praying in
her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli
thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, “How long are you going to stay
drunk? Put away your wine.” 15 “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a
woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was
pouring out my soul to the Lord. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked
woman; I
have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.” 1 Samuel 1:12-16
- Lord, help me in these days to pray deep heartfelt, non-superficial prayer by the help of Your Spirit. Let the depth of sorrow for my dead works turn into prayer from the heart in me
- Please Lord, don’t let me be distracted or affected by people’s misunderstanding of my desperate condition
- Take me to another level in my prayer life.
17 Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of
Israel grant you what you have asked of him.” 18 She said, “May your
servant find favor in your eyes.” Then
she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast. 19 Early
the next morning they arose and worshiped before the Lord and then went back to
their home at Ramah. Elkanah made love to his wife Hannah, and the Lord
remembered her. 20 So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and
gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, “Because I asked the Lord
for him.” 1 Samuel 1:17-20
- Lord, as I am sitting with You in these days, bring me to the point when I know beyond a shadow of doubt that You have heard me and it is done.
- Ps 126:5-6; Matt 5:4 – Lord, cause me, having sowed in tears, to reap in joy and having mourned my dead works, to be know the comfort You promised.
1 The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was
rare; there were not many visions. 19 The
Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to
the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel
was attested as a prophet of the Lord. 21 The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to
Samuel through his word. 1
Samuel 3:1 & 19-21
- Lord, I know You are coming again in our days. Let me be a vessel, a channel, a womb that You will use to make Your coming a certainty.
- Let Your life in me produce that which needs to be sowed into the chaos and darkness of our day
- Lord, show me my part in Your end time revival, don’t let me miss that specific work You have prepared for me to do for You (Eph 2:10). Lord, in these days of my decluttering, prepare me and make me fit and ready for Your use.
15 Samuel continued as Israel’s leader all the days of
his life. 16 From year to year he went on a circuit from Bethel to Gilgal
to Mizpah, judging Israel in all those places. 17 But he always went back to Ramah, where his home was, and there he also
held court for Israel. And he built an altar there to the Lord. 1 Samuel 7:15-17
- It’s interesting to know that despite Shiloh being the recognised place of worship in his day and the place where he was brought up in ministry, Samuel always returned home to Ramah. It was the place where he was nurtured and weaned by Hannah, the place of his real spiritual roots. Ramah, his home town was a spiritual reference point for Samuel because of the input of his mother Hannah.
- Lord, prepare me to be an incubator for You. Let the works You will do in & through me be a reference point, a place where Your name is recorded and remembered.
How I Praise Thee, Precious Savior
1. How I praise Thee,
precious Savior,
That Thy love laid hold of me;
Thou hast saved and cleansed and filled me
That I might Thy channel be.
That Thy love laid hold of me;
Thou hast saved and cleansed and filled me
That I might Thy channel be.
Refrain:
Channels only, blessed Master,
But with all Thy wondrous pow’r
Flowing through us, Thou canst use us
Every day and every hour.
Channels only, blessed Master,
But with all Thy wondrous pow’r
Flowing through us, Thou canst use us
Every day and every hour.
2. Just a channel full
of blessing,
To the thirsty hearts around;
To tell out Thy full salvation,
All Thy loving message sound.
To the thirsty hearts around;
To tell out Thy full salvation,
All Thy loving message sound.
3. Emptied that Thou
shouldest fill me,
A clean vessel in Thy hand;
With no pow’r but as Thou givest
Graciously with each command.
A clean vessel in Thy hand;
With no pow’r but as Thou givest
Graciously with each command.
4. Witnessing Thy pow’r
to save me,
Setting free from self and sin;
Thou who bought me to possess me,
In Thy fullness, Lord, come in.
Setting free from self and sin;
Thou who bought me to possess me,
In Thy fullness, Lord, come in.
5. Jesus, fill now with
Thy Spirit
Hearts that full surrender know;
That the streams of living water
From our inner self may flow.
Hearts that full surrender know;
That the streams of living water
From our inner self may flow.
